I felt torn when I turned in a 8.5 score for ME2 at Gamespot, but in all honesty, I wondered whether I should've lowered it further. The characters and voice acting are top notch, and quests associated with building the team were good, but what else is there? The mineral harvesting minigame is nightmarish, and the two hacking minigames are boring as hell. So what's left? Well, let me ask you this: Are you out to save the galaxy, or looking for the best sex in the galaxy? I'm all for relationships and romance in an RPG--and BIoware has included these for a long time--but aside from the infantile/PG-13 manner in which these relationships are culminated--I'm out to defeat a apocolyptic threat, not to get a girl to drop her drawers. So why is this the final scene before the big battle, and why is everything treated with kid gloves? Am I playing bishoujo, or a sci-fi RPG/shooter?

As you pointed out, if Bioware produces a shooter, it has to compete against shooters. And ME 2 doesn't stack up that well against other shooters. And since Bioware/EA decided to move away from the RPG formula--it doesn't stack up that well in that genre, either. :(
